ICSE 2015 Speaker & Session Chair Guidelines

High-quality presentations are essential for the success of ICSE. To help you plan your presentation for ICSE 2015, please find in this document important information about the audiovisual equipment available in the meeting rooms, along with guidelines to help you prepare and deliver your presentation.



All meeting rooms for any of the conference main tracks, as well as for any workshop, symposium and technical briefing, are equipped with:

  • one screen
  • one electronic data projector
  • one laptop computer

It is very important that you make sure to:

  • Adhere to the instructions you receive from the chairs of your track/session if you bring your own laptop.
  • Bring any special adapter you may need (e.g. to hook up your Mac or iPad). There will be a VGA adapter.
  • Test your presentation under 1024 x 768 resolution, the standard for the projectors at the conference.
  • Bring a copy of your presentation on a memory stick.
  • Charge your laptop so that it has sufficient battery power for the duration of your presentation.
  • Test your presentation on the provided equipment in advance (e.g. the evening before your presentation or early during lunch/coffee breaks).

NOTE: There will be no time extensions for your talk if you encounter technical difficulties.



Each session has a session chair coordinating the session and introducing you to the audience. Check the ICSE 2015 final program for the name of your session chair.

Make sure you:

  1. Meet your session chair before your session so he/she will know who you are; provide brief information about yourself that may be used by your session chair to introduce you (e.g., how to pronounce your name, institution, current position).
  2. Meet your session chair at least 15 minutes before the beginning of your session.

NOTE: For the Wed, Thu, and Fri sessions, you must be present throughout the session in which your presentation occurs.



Here are some helpful hints for both the preparation and delivery of your high-quality talk:

  • The ICSE audience draws participants from a wide variety of areas, both from academia and industry. Make sure that your talk includes enough background material and motivation so that it can be understood by those who are not specialists in your area.
  • Check the conference web site for the total time allotted to your talk (note that this varies depending on the event and track), and adhere to more specific chairs instructions for the time to be left for questions.
  • It is important to have some time at the end of your talk for questions, and it is critical that you present your talk and answer questions without exceeding the time allotted to you. Your session chair will manage the talks in the session and is responsible for keeping speakers on track: don’t feel upset if he/she stops you if you exceed your time slot.
